How-To: Extend Your Armor's Service Life Through Proper Storage
Poor storage can degrade ballistic materials and compromise protection when you need it most. These practices help maintain your armor's integrity between deployments.
Environmental Controls
- Store in temperatures between 32-120°F to prevent material degradation
- Maintain humidity below 80% using desiccant packs or dehumidifiers
- Keep away from direct sunlight and fluorescent lights that can break down fibers
- Avoid storing near chemicals, fuels, or cleaning solvents that can weaken ballistic materials
Physical Storage Setup
- Hang soft armor flat or lay completely flat to prevent creasing
- Store hard plates vertically in padded racks to distribute weight evenly
- Use breathable garment bags rather than plastic to allow moisture circulation
- Keep carriers and panels separate to allow air circulation and prevent mold
Regular Maintenance Checks
